Credit Default Swaps (CDS) are the newcomers to the derivatives world. They are only entering their third decade! Seen as one of the primary culprits for the credit crisis, these instruments play a major role in the fixed income markets. CDS are similar to a traditional corporate bond in that there is credit risk. However, that is where the similarities end. The course begins by reviewing the differences between a corporate bond and a CDS contract. Once the features are explored, pricing will be evaluated. The risk measurement DV01 and CS01 will be introduced and applied. The class closes by examining CDS indices. The features and characteristics are explored and some basic applications are evaluated.
